The Main Airport in the Maldives is Velana or Male International Airport. Located in the Central North Malé Atoll or Kaafu Atoll. From Male Airport to Male City by taxi is 13 Minutes and to Hulhumale is 12 minutes by private taxi. Up to 2020 year this the main Airport hub for all international flight around the world. The direct flights Maldives Airport From and to major cities of India,Sri Lanka, China, Most of the Asia, Europ and Middle East.The Main airlines are Srilankan,Indian Airways,Aroflort,AirAsia,Singapor Airline,Oman,Turkish Airline,China Eastern flights ,China Southern,Korean Airline,British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Etihad Airways,Thai Airways,Jet Airways and Qatar Airways.

Velana International Airport currently upgrading to give service up to 7 million tourist per year with better service, the new runway of 3400 meter long and by 60 meter wide is constructed and to be open this year 2020. Which can land the world largest passenger airliner in the the Maldives island.
Velana international Departure and Arrival terminal is Same. The terminal is with Duty Free shop and some branded outlets with cafe,resturants and other facilities.
Velana International Airport Seaplane Terminal 2020/2021
Maldives Seaplane Terminal Male international Airport is connected to seaplane operation of world largest seaplane fleet. The new seaplane terminal to be open May 2020, but due to COVID pandemic the opening date have been re schedule which is unknown. The new seaplane terminal is being built on reclaimed lagoon behi=ind the air Traffic control tower.which is few minutes from old seaplane terminal. The new terminal is 18,00 square meters on the reclaimed land and the accompanying hanger is being build on additional 14000 m . The new seaplane terminal is design with many lounges and seating areas for the passengers. All 4 seaplane operators Trans Maldivian,Maldivian,Flyme and Manta will be operating in one roof at the new seaplane terminal.
Velana International Airport Domestic Terminal 2020/2021
The domestic terminal is located 2 minutes from the arrival gate from international airport, you dont need to take a vehicle as its very close each other. Just make sure your luggage trolly is ready and you can be there in few minutes. All inter Atoll flight transfer to Resort or island will be taken by domestic terminal which operates island aviation,Flyme and Manta Airways.
The terminal is with VIP lounge ( moonimaa lounge) ticketing counters with a outdoor cafe. The Maldives airport company currently upgrading the International terminal and current domestic terminal will be shifting to current international terminal. Expected open date will be 2023.
